New Episode*: Double Identity (part 3)

by Lulu Mcgrew

* I kinda feel like I am writing myself into a corner on this one, thus the delay in getting this done. I think from now on, I will have to write out the whole episode first, and not try to write a new chapter a day. But hey, this is the first try…I’ll learn from my mistakes (hopefully).

Back from commercial:

Interior: DD Imports Office

Dan Voorhies is now seated behind his desk. Boulet is sitting across from him, as Cobb stands.

Boulet asks when he was aware that a man identifying himself as David Sampson filed a report of death threats from an ex-partner. Voorhies looks confused, and says no, but then he isn’t an “ex-partner.” They have been in business since after “the Storm.” They both came to New Orleans after Katrina to start Double D. He smirks about the name, as does Cobb.

Boulet then tells him that this David Sampson filed the report this morning, but David Sampson’s body indicates that he was murdered last night. Voorhies asks how can that be? Boulet says that he was hoping that he could tell them.

Back at the Station:

Love Tap is looking through a file, with Captain Embry standing next to her. She tells him that fingerprints didn’t match up, but only because the victim’s prints aren’t in the database. Embry asks about a home residence, family members, anything else to go on. Love Tap explains that DD only leased the one house, it’s empty, and so far she cannot find anyone relate to David Sampson. She cannot even find a middle name. The business is filed under the partner, Voorhies. Sampson wasn’t listed on the business application or license, so she cannot find any social security number. Embry asks why he wasn’t on the license. Love Tap shrugs.

Then: Boulet and Cobb arrive with Voorhies. Love Tap stares at the man walking with Cobb and Boulet. Embry notices her staring and asks her if she knows that guy? She says no, but looks doubtful.

Cut to: Interior Examination Room

Voorhies is looking at a small television monitor that is showing the interior of the station. The tape is from earlier that day, and shows a man sitting at Love Tap’s desk. Voorhies says that is not Sampson. He doesn’t know who that man is.

Cobb looks suspicious. Boulet asks Voorhies where he was the night before. Voorhies answers that he was at a bar. It was a place next door to a shop he made a delivery to. Cobb asks him if he always made personal deliveries. Voorhies tells him that for small orders he does, since it doesn’t make sense to send a truck. And he says it’s good business — a good-looking guy dropping off product, and it gives him a chance to make personal contacts. He went to business school so he knows the power of networking. Cobb laughs a little, and Boulet smiles at him. Voorhies pauses and then complains that most people don’t look at his kind of business as respectable, and he can laugh about that all the way to the bank. Boulet backpedals and says, no, no, sex toys are respectable, he is just being sensitive. Cobb puts on a serious face again.

He asks Voorhies why he didn’t know his partner was back in the country. Voorhies snarks that Dave wasn’t his boyfriend, and they didn’t keep tabs on each other. He tells them that Dave was a bit more of a silent partner, keeping the books but letting Dan be the salesguy.

Cut to:

Love Tap writes something down, looks over her shoulder, and gets up. She walks out of the station.

Cut to: Exterior Station

Love Tap gets in a squad car.

Cut to:

Exterior: Marina

Love Tap gets out of her car. She walks up to the gate at the Marina, a swanky one, well, as swanky as New Orleans can get when it comes to a marina. A man is nearby, and sees her approaching. He asks if he can help her. She says yes, she needs to find a boat licensed to a DD Imports. The man takes her to a yacht, saying, “This is it. Dave’s boat.” She gives him a look, but says nothing. She doesn’t have a warrant, but she still gets on the boat, looking in through the small windows. It is obviously lived in, but again, there looks to be very little personal.

She thanks the man, and walks back to her car.

She picks up the radio.

About Watching KVille

Sure, K-Ville enjoyed a short run on FOX during the ill-fated fall television season of 2007. After being interrupted by the Writers' Strike, K-Ville was cancelled, but that doesn't mean we don't see new "K-Villes" come and go every season…This blog explores not only life after K-Ville, but also those television programs that either exploit current events or last one season or less.
