Blake Shields Needs More MySpace Friends

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

I ran across this charming impromptu interview with Blake Shields, where I have no idea, but when I can answer. Seems that K-Ville had just be picked up by FOX and Shields had just found out. Ah, memories. Memories of a time when the world seemed fresh and new, before the writer’s strike, and before K-Ville disappeared.

I wonder…will K-Ville be released on DVD? I know that other shows with less than perfect one-seasons are out there, so I do hope that K-Ville will get it’s just due and receive a lovely DVD packaging. It’s just too bad that the season was cut short so abruptly, and without any kind of closure ( as I don’t recognize that horrible “Ride Along” episode as any kind of finale whatsoever). I do so wish that the production could have at least lasted for the full 13 episodes rather than the ten we got.

Anyhoo, this interview makes me really appreciate Blake Shields. If you need a reminder, Shields played (so sad to write that in the past tense) Glue Boy, or Jeff Gooden. Huh, never did find out why the “Glue Boy” nickname…nor did we ever find out why “Love Tap.”

So watching this interview, I wonder why Shields hasn’t been cast in a comedy as of yet? Actually, maybe he has, but all I know him from is Sleeper Cell (a great, great show on Showtime, if you didn’t get a chance to see it, check out the DVDs for the two seasons it lasted, although Shields is only in the first season). He is very funny in this interview, and I may have a new crush!

Too bad I cancelled my MySpace account, or I’d befriend him.

Elise Neal in the Upcoming “Love Ranch”

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Elise Neal, or Mrs. Marlin Boulet from the now-defunct “K-Ville“, has a new project coming out soon, and this film may be a winner. Or maybe I just think so because Helen Mirren is in it, and I love her.

No, but seriously, Elise Neal can been seen in the upcoming Love Ranch, which is a story based on the real life events of the couple that opened the first legal brothel in Nevada back in the day. Oh, and there is a murder involved as well. By the picture of the lovely part of the cast, it looks like the film takes place in the swingin’ 70’s.

love_ranch_pix.jpg

Even before I started digging around for more information on Love Ranch, I figured that Neal would be playing one of the legalized prostitutes. I mean, come on, the girl is hot, so I don’t see her dressed up as a local nun trying to stop the brothel from opening, right? I had also caught Helen Mirren on some show, can’t remember which one, talking about the new film, so I knew a little about the story.

If anyone doesn’t recall, it is not much of a departure for The Queen to play a role in a rather risque film, Ms. Mirren was in Caligula back in the day.

Here is a PG-rated still from the film. If you want to see other stills, involving images not suitable for this forum, you must fin them yourself, but a simple google search will suffice. Trust me.

helenmirren.caligula.jpg

But back to Ms. Neal.

Elise Neal is no stranger to rather sexy projects, as she is also behind a musical “theatre” group called Assorted Flavors. You can check out her website here for more images (all of which show off Ms. Neal’s considerable assets) and more news about Elise.

Personally, I thought Neal did a good job on K-Ville, as Anthony Anderson’s wife, but I did find it disconcerting how hot she was in comparison to Anderson. How would that relationship happen? Talk about suspension of disbelief. Ah, I kid. Her character, Ayana, must be smart enough to realize that a man loses his looks (and waistline), and the personality is the real key to finding a mate. Right.

John Carrol Lynch Working On Jennifer Aniston’s Next Film

Friday, April 11th, 2008

I ran across this little tidbit on IMDb, and thought I would pass it along.

John Carroll Lynch, Captain Embry on the now-defunct K-Ville, will be in the upcoming Jennifer Aniston-Aaron Eckhart film called Traveling.

The film has been in principal photography in both Vancouver (January) and Seattle (March). Here is a quick picture of both stars during shooting, I think.

jennifer_aniston_new_man.jpg

That picture came from JustJared.com.

IMDb has the synopsis as pure romantic comedy drivel, if you ask me, and almost no one ever does. Eckhart’s character writes a book on dealing with loss after losing his wife. The book fills a niche, and he becomes famous as a self-help huckster, I mean, guru. Somewhere along the line he meets Aniston’s florist character, and of course, he is smitten, because everyone is, right? Somwhere along the way, Eckhart realizes that no, he is not over the pain of losing his wife, and what then? Does Jen get dumped for a dead woman? No, I am sure, they will remain friends (with benefits) and leave it open to pursue their blooming romance another time, after a couple years of therapy. Either way, I am sure I will not be watching this one.

It is too bad that Jennifer Aniston has gone the romantic comedy route, as my favourite role of hers is still Office Space (with another great role in the “Getting Gay with Kids” South Park episode). Which is a comedy, with a romance, but far from a rom-com.

Anyhoo, John Carroll Lynch is playing a character named Walter, and that is all I can find about that. Maybe he will play a lovable florist, perhaps with a slight gay persuasion with a touch of cross-dressing — oh, wait, he already did that on Drew Carey.

Glue Boy

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

So I have devoted a post to John Carrol Lynch and Tawny Cypress, and I didn’t want to leave Blake Shields out.

Blake Shields plays Jeff “Glue Boy” Gooden.

Naturally, I cross-referenced with IMDb. If you have not heard of IMDb, it stands for Internet Movie DataBase. It is an invaluable resource for finding out who that one guy was, and what else you have seen him. At least, that is what I use it for. And I use it so often, that yes, much like “google” I now use IMDb as a verb. Which I know is annoying to all of my friends.

imdb_logo.gif

But I digress…

Blake Shields has been in two of my favorite shows. Freaks and Geeks and Sleeper Cell. Yes, I have a wide range of tastes.

On Freaks and Geeks, Blake was only in one episode. Truthfully, I don’t remember him, but Freaks and Geeks is one of those shows that I tend to put in my DVD player from time to time, so I will look for him in “The Diary” episode. I know from some pictures I found that Blake looks a bit different with hair.

blake_shields_with_hair.jpg

On Sleeper Cell, he was a member of the sleeper cell in the first season.

Blake also had a recurring role on HBO’s Carnivale, which I keep meaning to watch. I tuned in for the premiere and wasn’t really in the proper mood for that show at that particular time, but I want to watch it, I really do. Especially after my friend, Heather, told me about the episode that contained the phrase, “carnie douche.”

Blake also did a lot of minor parts in lots of other shows (CSI, West Wing, Veronica Mars, Crossing Jordan), and it looks like most of those were one episode kind of gigs. He did a couple of movies that I have never seen, like New Port South, Boys and Girls, and Crime and Punishment in Suburbia. He also works under the name Blake C. Shields.

Like I have mentioned before, I would really like K-Ville to give us a bit of a backstory on Glue Boy. So if anyone from the K-Ville writing staff is reading this…oh, wait, they are too busy striking. Power to the People!

Love Tap is Gorgeous!

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

This is probably one of the worst vid clips I will ever post, promise. The audio is totally out of sync, and I apologize, but still Tawny Cypress is so pretty. It’s kind of a shame that we never get to see her dolled up on K-Ville.

I really do hope that we will get some background story on both Love Tap and Glue Boy. For example, those nicknames…Huh?

If the FOX discussions boards are to be trusted, it seems as though the “Flood, Wind and Fire” episode was a hit Monday night. There was a consensus among the six, count ‘em six, posts that the FWF episode was by far the best of the season so far. It’ll be such a shame when K-Ville goes into re-runs. That is if FOX lets it go into reruns, and doesn’t decide to air “Temptation Peninsula: Escape is Futile, but Possible”.

I am trying to watch the episode on line on the FOX website, but when I opened it, Firefox quit on me. So I will try again, because now that I have read that others thought it was so good, I must watch it. That and the fact that I write this little blog.

Here’s a little background on Tawny Cypress. From IMDB.

It is also listed that her mom was Hungarian and German, and dad was an African- and Native-American with a touch of European. Anyway you look at it, it was a great recipe for Tawny. She is beautiful. And the posters on the IMDB discussions boards agree…and want her to return to Heroes.

Roy from The Office

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Last night’s K-Ville was, I hate to say it…touching. I almost had a tear in my eye at the end. Almost. Probably would have if I weren’t a robot.

I am not one much for a synopsis, which is rude of me, I admit. I will post a synopsis later this week, when I have nothing else or better to do. Today I want to talk about the guest star.

David Denman, otherwise known to me as Roy from The Office, did a great job on K-Ville last night. According to IMDB, he has done lots of other stuff, and guest roles, on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, ER and the movie, The Replacements; but as I watch none of those, he will always be Roy from The Office.

david_denman__roy_.jpg

Aw, why did Pam break his heart? He’s so cute.

Although look at this, shot back in September. He is one of those guys that looks way better with a beard, am I right?

david_denmand_roy_wout_beard.jpg

Roy, I mean David, played a father that lost both his wife and daughter in “the storm.” After finding out that his baby daughter survived by floating away in a tub, like “baby Moses,” he naturally wanted to get her back. Problem was that since no one could find Baby Melissa’s parents, and assumed they perished, Melissa was adopted by a plastic surgeon and his barren wife.

I kind of got lost in the plot for a bit as David’s character was abducted by a dog catcher, who did the abduction to keep seeing his own daughter, because the Social Worker Guy was in love with the Plastic Surgeon’s wife, and killed the Plastic Surgeon, to somehow get The Wife to fall for Social Worker Guy. Yeah, that’s what I thought, too.

Anyhoo, the overarching story of parents reunited with lost children was a nice plotline, despite the need to make it so confusing for me. Roy, argh, David, David, he’s David. David did a fine job as a desperate father who just wanted some semblance of his life back. That and his daughter. There was a really nice moment when they were reunited. I couldn’t help feeling badly for The Wife/Widow, since she not only lost her husband but also her daughter. But hey, that’s what you get for being barren. I’m kidding, of course.

To go along with the crime-based plot, Boulet was trying to connect with his daughter during this episode. It’s so nice when writers have to make it so obvious that there is a “theme” to an episode. Chris made a comment that Boulet’s daughter walks all over him, and if he isn’t careful, she’ll grow up to be a stripper.

Oh, I almost forgot. Glue Boy and Love Tap got some lines last night. More of them, please!!!! True, K-Ville will survive of the characters are engaging, but that doesn’t mean that the only characters are Boulet and Cobb.

Give It Up for Cap’n

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Ok, so today I feel like spotlighting one of the supporting cast members of my favorite new show (wink).

Even though I think most people will recognize him as the cross-dressing brother of Drew Carey on The Drew Carey Show, I associate him with Margie Gunderson in Fargo. Aw, aren’t they cute? And he just got his duck picture accepted as a Minnesota stamp.

bw3.jpg

John Carrol Lynch is from Minnesota, and that is not a lie, although he was born in Colorado. He went to school and got a BFA, or a Bachelors of Fine Arts, for those of you not down with the acronyms of art people. And get this, he started out in the theatre, the real theatre, the Guthrie in Minneapolis, doing Checkhov (not the Russian with the funny accent from Star Trek, but he was a Russian - not sure about the accent) and Shakespeare.

Lynch got his start in movies doing films made in Minnesota fittingly. He got more work based on his Fargo work and Beautiful Girls and Feeling Minnesota. You know, I saw Feeling Minnesota, and I can’t remember Lynch in it (IMDB says he played a cop). I must have been so distracted by Keanu’s stoney acting genius to notice anyone else. I think Cameron Diaz was in it. Never saw Beautiful Girls.

Anyhoo, how did a guy with such a dead on exaggerated Minnesota accent go on to do such a crappy job at an exaggerated New Orleans accent? And he seems to only pull out the accent every now and then, have you noticed that?

Captain James Embry is Lynch’s eighth policeman role. But hey, he’s made it to Captain. Moving up…

About Watching KVille

Sure, K-Ville enjoyed a short run on FOX during the ill-fated fall television season of 2007. After being interrupted by the Writers' Strike, K-Ville was cancelled, but that doesn't mean we don't see new "K-Villes" come and go every season…This blog explores not only life after K-Ville, but also those television programs that either exploit current events or last one season or less.
