New Episode*: Double Identity (part 3)

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

* I kinda feel like I am writing myself into a corner on this one, thus the delay in getting this done. I think from now on, I will have to write out the whole episode first, and not try to write a new chapter a day. But hey, this is the first try…I’ll learn from my mistakes (hopefully).

Back from commercial:

Interior: DD Imports Office

Dan Voorhies is now seated behind his desk. Boulet is sitting across from him, as Cobb stands.

Boulet asks when he was aware that a man identifying himself as David Sampson filed a report of death threats from an ex-partner. Voorhies looks confused, and says no, but then he isn’t an “ex-partner.” They have been in business since after “the Storm.” They both came to New Orleans after Katrina to start Double D. He smirks about the name, as does Cobb.

Boulet then tells him that this David Sampson filed the report this morning, but David Sampson’s body indicates that he was murdered last night. Voorhies asks how can that be? Boulet says that he was hoping that he could tell them.

Back at the Station:

Love Tap is looking through a file, with Captain Embry standing next to her. She tells him that fingerprints didn’t match up, but only because the victim’s prints aren’t in the database. Embry asks about a home residence, family members, anything else to go on. Love Tap explains that DD only leased the one house, it’s empty, and so far she cannot find anyone relate to David Sampson. She cannot even find a middle name. The business is filed under the partner, Voorhies. Sampson wasn’t listed on the business application or license, so she cannot find any social security number. Embry asks why he wasn’t on the license. Love Tap shrugs.

Then: Boulet and Cobb arrive with Voorhies. Love Tap stares at the man walking with Cobb and Boulet. Embry notices her staring and asks her if she knows that guy? She says no, but looks doubtful.

Cut to: Interior Examination Room

interrogation_room.jpg

Voorhies is looking at a small television monitor that is showing the interior of the station. The tape is from earlier that day, and shows a man sitting at Love Tap’s desk. Voorhies says that is not Sampson. He doesn’t know who that man is.

Cobb looks suspicious. Boulet asks Voorhies where he was the night before. Voorhies answers that he was at a bar. It was a place next door to a shop he made a delivery to. Cobb asks him if he always made personal deliveries. Voorhies tells him that for small orders he does, since it doesn’t make sense to send a truck. And he says it’s good business — a good-looking guy dropping off product, and it gives him a chance to make personal contacts. He went to business school so he knows the power of networking. Cobb laughs a little, and Boulet smiles at him. Voorhies pauses and then complains that most people don’t look at his kind of business as respectable, and he can laugh about that all the way to the bank. Boulet backpedals and says, no, no, sex toys are respectable, he is just being sensitive. Cobb puts on a serious face again.

He asks Voorhies why he didn’t know his partner was back in the country. Voorhies snarks that Dave wasn’t his boyfriend, and they didn’t keep tabs on each other. He tells them that Dave was a bit more of a silent partner, keeping the books but letting Dan be the salesguy.

Cut to:

Love Tap writes something down, looks over her shoulder, and gets up. She walks out of the station.

Cut to: Exterior Station

Love Tap gets in a squad car.

Cut to:

marina_250x251.jpg

Exterior: Marina

Love Tap gets out of her car. She walks up to the gate at the Marina, a swanky one, well, as swanky as New Orleans can get when it comes to a marina. A man is nearby, and sees her approaching. He asks if he can help her. She says yes, she needs to find a boat licensed to a DD Imports. The man takes her to a yacht, saying, “This is it. Dave’s boat.” She gives him a look, but says nothing. She doesn’t have a warrant, but she still gets on the boat, looking in through the small windows. It is obviously lived in, but again, there looks to be very little personal.

She thanks the man, and walks back to her car.

She picks up the radio.

Back from ads.

Interior: Empty house

crime_scene.jpg

A CSI guy is telling Boulet and Cobb that the victim was killed sometime last night. Love Tap is calling the phone number that is on the business card. It goes right to voicemail. There is no phone ringing nearby. Love Tap then grabs her own phone, and calls a request in to triangulate the whereabouts of a cell phone.

Love Tap tells Boulet and Cobb that the David Sampson she spoke with that morning is definitely not the guy on the floor. Cobb agrees, telling her that the body has been there since last night. She gives Cobb a sarcastic grin, and continues to explain that her David Sampson complained of death threats from an ex-business partner, a Daniel Voorhies. Boulet jokes, hey, they have nothing else to go on until some fingerprints come back, so let’s go find this Daniel Voorhies.

Moments Later:

Interior: Boulet’s Car

Cobb tells Boulet that he thinks that the business cards are just too obviously placed on the body, as if trying to make it look like someone else. Boulet interrupts him. “so you mean this Sampson guy kills another man and plants his cards on him, so whoever is threatening name thinks he’s dead and they should stop trying?” Cobb laughs a little, “No, nothing like that, but something…the cards are just oddly placed. Don’t most men keep their cards in their wallet?” Cobb continues, “Why absolutely nothing else to identify this man?”

Boulet’s phone rings, and he answers it. He listens, hangs up, and turns to Cobb. The house belongs to a company, DD Imports. Boulet turns the wheel.

Moments: Later

Exterior: DD Imports.

New_Orleans_04_07_315.jpg

A short, inconspicuous building amid the dry docks. Cobb and Boulet are walking up to front door. Just as they are entering, Cobb says to Boulet, “didn’t we have a call down here?”

Just he gets those words out of his mouth, a black-haired woman, overly gothic, with a tight skirt and high boots, storms over to them, demanding what took them so long? Cobb tries calming her down, and Boulet asks what does she mean, suddenly putting it together that this place must be the burglary they were going to investigate before getting called to the murder scene that morning. The brunette continues taking at a breakneck speed, both informing them of the robbery and chastising them for taking over two hours to get there. What if she were being raped?

Cobb calmly asks her to explain what happened. She takes a deep breath, glaring at them both at the same time. She slowly explains that when she got there this morning to open up, the safe was open and cleaned out. She further explains that she is the office manager, and she has not been able to get in touch with either of the two owners just yet. Boulet asks the names of the owners. Dan Voorhies and David Sampson. And what exactly does the business import? She smiles and says, adult entertainment accessories.

Just then the phone rings. The office manager answers and freaks out on the person on the other end. She tells the phone to just hurry. She hangs up and tells Boulet and Cobb that Mr. Voorhies is on his way.

While waiting, Cobb asks her how long she has worked here, and she (Raven) answers that it has only been two weeks, but she has known Voorhies for a bit longer. He used to come into a club she used to work at. Boulet asks about the club. Well, she answers, he would deliver stuff to the sex shop next door, and he’d stop in for a drink. She was the bartender, and she didn’t want to work late nights anymore now that she is back in school, so Dan gave her this job. Cobb asks if she knew Mr. Sampson as long as Voorhies. She says, no, she has never actually met him yet, and she thinks he’s been out of the country since she’s started.

A car door is heard closing. Outside the window Daniel Voorhies is walking inside. He is tan, and somewhat younger than either of the supposed business partners he has. He shakes both Cobb and Boulet’s hand as he introduces himself. He then walks past them and into the office. Boulet and Cobb follow him.

Voorhies stands looking into the safe, shaking his head and rubbing a frustrated hand through his sandy blonde hair. he doesn’t bother looking anywhere else around the office. Voorhies asks Boulet if they have any leads yet. Boulet gives Cobb a look, and says to Voorhies, that no, unfortunately, they have just arrived themselves. He continues to add that CSI is on their way. Voorhies looks at him suddenly, CSI? Really? For a robbery. Boulet smiles. Well, it’s a bit more than that. He asks Voorhies if he has seen his partner David Sampson since yesterday. Voorhies looks confused, and answers no. He hasn’t seen him since before the holidays. Dave was going to Asia to see about some product and take a little R&R. Cobb then asks Voorhies to identify the man in a picture that he holds up to him. Voorhies stares at the photo, and says, yes, it’s David Sampson.

Meanwhile: Back at the Station.

Captain Embry is leading a suit through the precinct. The suit is FBI. Embry is congenial as he leads the FBI Agent into his office. He makes light of the efficiency of the federal government in light of his current office, but the FBI Agent doesn’t smile. He doesn’t see a chair, so he stands as he informs the Captain that there has been a request made from someone in Internal Affairs to conduct an investigation into corruption among the NOPD. The Agent, Agent Ball, then continues to tell the Captain that he personally thinks this is a waste of time and a PR stunt to turn down criticism about the federal role in New Orleans.

But he has a job to do, so he will expect the Captain’s help in this matter. Agent Ball has some other departments to look into first, but he will be needing to look through the captain’s officers as well. Embry offers his help, and thanks Agent Ball for the heads up.

New Episode*: Double Identity (part 1)

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Here we go, kiddies. The first new episode of K-Ville for all of you jonesing for more adventures with Boulet and Cobb. This episode is called, yeah, look at the title above.

Please note that this is not proper script format.

Open on a dark night.

Exterior: Cobb’s trailer.

Cobb is walking up to his small trailer, presumably after a long day. His body language shows us that he is tired.

As he approaches the door, a noise comes from inside the trailer. Cobb freezes, and quickly draws his gun. He pauses and listens at the door. He hears nothing else. He storms inside, gun held out in front of him, expecting an ambush.

He looks around the room, and sees…nothing. A crash comes from behind him. He spins around, ready to fire.

cole_hauser.jpg

Felice, his newly-adopted cat, has just knocked a pan off of the counter that separates the kitchen from the tiny living area. She jumps at him, as she is also startled by the noise. The cat flies past Cobb’s surprised, yet slightly relieved, face. The cat hops up onto the couch, and jumps out an open window.

Cobb, shaking his head, muttering something about “taking in a damn cat” slowly holsters his gun. Looking at the mess the cat has made, he bends down to pick up the pan.

Exterior: We see a dark figure slink away into the darkness.

Start Opening Credits.

Interior: NOPD Temporary Stationhouse

Cobb enters the stationhouse. The camera acts as his eyes, surveying the scene.

We see Love Tap at her desk, and an overweight man in a suit talking to her, as she is taking down some information on a pad of paper.

Boulet is also at his desk. Cobb walks over to Boulet, and says “Thanks again for guilting me into taking that damn cat home.”

Boulet, laughing, says “I just thought that you could use some feminine companionship.”

Cut to: Love Tap’s looks bored as she is listening to this man in a dark suit tell her that he has been receiving death threats. He expects the police to do something. She assures him that they will look into it, however, as he has no specific information, there is not a whole lot that the police can do. She asks him if he has any ideas who would be behind this. He mentions an ex-business partner, but he is a public figure so it could be any nutjob. Love Tap looks over and sees –

The Captain enters the room, and he has a stern look on his face. Boulet and Cobb stop laughing, and wait sheepishly for what they have been expecting. Captain Embry asks them to enter his office.

Cut to: Interior Captain Embry’s Office

Captain launches right into a tirade about a “mole” working in the department. He is convinced that there may be a issue, and it wouldn’t be the first time that the NOPD has had a corrupt cop in its midst.

Cobb stays silent, as Boulet assuages Captain and assures him that street gossip is usually based on another con being around while the cops talk shop, and that is how most information gets out — accidentally, nothing more. Captain is about to argue, but Boulet is adamant. There is not an issue of a mole in the department, and there is no need to bring in Internal Affairs guys to look into what will probably be nothing. Those IA guys are busy enough as it is. Boulet assures Captain that if there is a mole, he will find him. Captain looks doubtful, but sends Boulet and Cobb off with an assignment to look into a burglery at a local dock.

Shortly Later:

Cobb and Boulet are on their way to the docks. Cobb worries that Captain wasn’t convinced. Boulet tells him to not worry, and all they have to do is find the guy first and fast, so no one else has to start digging around.

A call comes over the wire. Boulet and Cobb are instructed to go directly to a private residence. They turn the car around.

Later: Exterior: House

CSI guys are entering the house. Boulet and Cobb walk up to the house, and follow them in. The house is strangely empty, except for a body in the long hallway. The body has a single gunshot into the chest, and there is very little blood on the floor around the body. Cobb starts looking around the house. Boulet puts on some latex gloves, and digs around the pockets of the body. He finds no wallet, but does find a small cache of business cards in an inside pocket of the jacket that the man has on. There are five to ten cards, all with the same name, David Sampson, Importer.

From behind Boulet, Love Tap and Glue Boy enter the house, and walk toward the body. Cobb returns from inspecting the house, and says that it doesn’t seem as though anyone was living there. Boulet tells everyone that there is no identification, but several of the same business card, so he assumes that the cards are the man’s own cards. He mentions the name. Love Tap asks him to repeat.

Boulet says, “David Sampson.” Love Tap says that is the name of the guy that she took a statement from just earlier that day. She tells them that her David Sampson was reporting death threats. Everyone looks at the body.

About Watching KVille

Sure, K-Ville enjoyed a short run on FOX during the ill-fated fall television season of 2007. After being interrupted by the Writers' Strike, K-Ville was cancelled, but that doesn't mean we don't see new "K-Villes" come and go every season…This blog explores not only life after K-Ville, but also those television programs that either exploit current events or last one season or less.
