Cole Hauser Returning to TV

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

But this time it is on CBS. And it’s still a maybe…

Many thanks again to TCNA, a reader/commenter, who graciously tipped me off that Cole Hauser has joined the cast of a new CBS pilot called The Tower.

Upon researching said pilot, I have found out the following:

Marcia Gay Harden plays a millionaire newspaper owner in Chicago, and the pilot/potential series is being produced by Cold Case executive producer, Meredith Stiehm, as well as Davis Guggenheim, the director of the Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth. Stiehm is listed as the writer on IMDb in addition to her duties as the EP, and Guggenheim will be directing the pilot.

cast_pounder_photo.jpg

CCH Pounder and

OHare.gif
Denis O’Hare

are also attached to The Tower. CCH Pounder, who comes from The Shield, was usually my favorite character. And Denis O’Hare, who has been in just about everything, is a Tony-winner for his role in Take Me Out, and almost won for the revival of Sondheim’s Assassins. He can dance, he can sing, he can act. He’s a triple-threat!

*Side note* about Assassins. It came out in the early 1990’s, but nobody got it. It was then shelved for a decade, and became a hit. It’s a great musical if you have never heard it.

Here’s a little trivia about Meredith Stiehm. She first started writing for TV on Northern Exposure, and even spent a couple of seasons writing for BH 90210. Neat. I have to wonder if she will be somehow involved in the rumored 90210 spin-off, arriving this fall, possibly.

A bit from Variety:

Harden is set to play Zoe, a millionaire who buys the newspaper at the center of the Eye pilot “The Tower.” Project revolves around journos who not only break stories but also solve mysteries.

And from the Hollywood Reporter:

“Tower,” from CBS Par, revolves around a group of Chicago reporters who treat breaking news as cases to be both investigated and solved. Hauser will play a crime reporter. “The Shield” alumna Pounder will play the paper’s managing editor.

The Hollywood Reporter offered a bit more info on Hauser.

Cole Hauser has been tapped for the lead role in “The Tower,” the CBS drama pilot from “Cold Case” exec producer Meredith Stiehm.

Davis Guggenheim is directing the project, which will have Hauser starring as Sean Castleman, a crime reporter at a paper where journos investigate and solve crimes. CBS Paramount Network TV is producing.

Hauser most recently co-starred in the Fox drama “K-Ville.” He’s filming Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys Together” and is set to appear in the features “Tortured” and “Like Dandelion Dust.”

Hmm. I like the idea of Chicago-based reporters, even though I am sure the series will be shot in LA, despite the setting. It’ll probably be like ER in that they show a couple of shots of the Sears Tower and then everything is very sound-stagey. I really hate that, and that is one of the reasons that I thought K-Ville stood out from the pack. Filmed in the actual location is a nice touch for authenticity in a very un-authentic world.

Still, glad that Hauser is returning to TV, and in a lead is even better.

Bush Hosting North American Summit in New Orleans

Monday, April 21st, 2008

bush_phone.jpg

That boy ain’t right.

The Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, will be joining our fearless President George the Younger in New Orleans today and tomorrow. The trio will be meeting over the two days to discuss how much better the world would be if K-Ville were still in the air. Ok, that is a lie. I’m sure there will be a lot of talk about immigration, free trade, and how to get Trey Parker and Matt Stone to quit making fun of Canadians so much.

The woman in charge of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, a Ms. Romig, told a reporter from Voice of America that the PM and the Mexican President will be visiting other parts of the city, in addition to wherever it is that they are staying and meeting (I assume at a very nice hotel). Strangely, the article doesn’t mention if Mr. Bush will venture out with the tour group.

Romig says both Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon and their official delegations will have the opportunity to visit parts of the city outside the sites where the summit meetings will take place. She says President Calderon, in particular, will be active, re-opening a consulate here that was closed in 2002. –VOA

But hey, that’s good news that the Mexicans are opening up the New Orleans consulate right?

More from the same article.

The Mexican consulate here had been one of the two oldest consulates Mexico had in the United States before it was closed in a cost-cutting effort in 2002. Much of the rebuilding work carried out in New Orleans following Katrina has been done by immigrants from Mexico and other parts of Latin America and there are now around 30,000 Mexicans living in and around the city.

I have to admit that I do find it odd that immigrant labor was used/is being used to rebuild New Orleans. You would think that some sort of work program could have been formed to give locals jobs in the rebuilding process, but then what do I know? And besides, where would the Federal Government come up with funds for something like that? Ill-used FEMA funds or funds from the ill-conceived Iraq war?

That would never work.

Blake Shields Needs More MySpace Friends

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

I ran across this charming impromptu interview with Blake Shields, where I have no idea, but when I can answer. Seems that K-Ville had just be picked up by FOX and Shields had just found out. Ah, memories. Memories of a time when the world seemed fresh and new, before the writer’s strike, and before K-Ville disappeared.

I wonder…will K-Ville be released on DVD? I know that other shows with less than perfect one-seasons are out there, so I do hope that K-Ville will get it’s just due and receive a lovely DVD packaging. It’s just too bad that the season was cut short so abruptly, and without any kind of closure ( as I don’t recognize that horrible “Ride Along” episode as any kind of finale whatsoever). I do so wish that the production could have at least lasted for the full 13 episodes rather than the ten we got.

Anyhoo, this interview makes me really appreciate Blake Shields. If you need a reminder, Shields played (so sad to write that in the past tense) Glue Boy, or Jeff Gooden. Huh, never did find out why the “Glue Boy” nickname…nor did we ever find out why “Love Tap.”

So watching this interview, I wonder why Shields hasn’t been cast in a comedy as of yet? Actually, maybe he has, but all I know him from is Sleeper Cell (a great, great show on Showtime, if you didn’t get a chance to see it, check out the DVDs for the two seasons it lasted, although Shields is only in the first season). He is very funny in this interview, and I may have a new crush!

Too bad I cancelled my MySpace account, or I’d befriend him.

Elise Neal in the Upcoming “Love Ranch”

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Elise Neal, or Mrs. Marlin Boulet from the now-defunct “K-Ville“, has a new project coming out soon, and this film may be a winner. Or maybe I just think so because Helen Mirren is in it, and I love her.

No, but seriously, Elise Neal can been seen in the upcoming Love Ranch, which is a story based on the real life events of the couple that opened the first legal brothel in Nevada back in the day. Oh, and there is a murder involved as well. By the picture of the lovely part of the cast, it looks like the film takes place in the swingin’ 70’s.

love_ranch_pix.jpg

Even before I started digging around for more information on Love Ranch, I figured that Neal would be playing one of the legalized prostitutes. I mean, come on, the girl is hot, so I don’t see her dressed up as a local nun trying to stop the brothel from opening, right? I had also caught Helen Mirren on some show, can’t remember which one, talking about the new film, so I knew a little about the story.

If anyone doesn’t recall, it is not much of a departure for The Queen to play a role in a rather risque film, Ms. Mirren was in Caligula back in the day.

Here is a PG-rated still from the film. If you want to see other stills, involving images not suitable for this forum, you must fin them yourself, but a simple google search will suffice. Trust me.

helenmirren.caligula.jpg

But back to Ms. Neal.

Elise Neal is no stranger to rather sexy projects, as she is also behind a musical “theatre” group called Assorted Flavors. You can check out her website here for more images (all of which show off Ms. Neal’s considerable assets) and more news about Elise.

Personally, I thought Neal did a good job on K-Ville, as Anthony Anderson’s wife, but I did find it disconcerting how hot she was in comparison to Anderson. How would that relationship happen? Talk about suspension of disbelief. Ah, I kid. Her character, Ayana, must be smart enough to realize that a man loses his looks (and waistline), and the personality is the real key to finding a mate. Right.

Cole Hauser’s Next Project Coming Soon

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Cole Hauser, formerly of the much beloved and much maligned but still very cancelled K-Ville, has completed work (or should be done soon) on his next project, a film with Mira Sorvino. The title is Like Dandelion Dust, and it’s based on a novel by Karen Kingsbury, who is also a producer on the film.

Here is the quick synopsis I found on IMDB:

Jack and Molly Campbell enjoyed an idyllic life with their adopted 5-year-old son, Joey. One phone call shatters their world when they learn Joey’s biological father has just been released from prison and discovered a loop hole in the adoption papers and now lays claim to his son. He wants to start a new life by taking back his son. When a judge upholds the biological father’s claim and Molly and Jack learn they must give Joey over to this brutal man they devise a plan. How far would you go to protect your family? Written by Karen Kingsbury

Hmm. Though I am not likely to see this film, it looks like it could be good. I mean anything is possible, right? Barry Pepper is playing the biological father, Rip. You remember this guy, he played the sniper in Saving Private Ryan, and then I think he went on to the unfortunate Scientology-pet-project, Battlefield Earth.

SavingRyan2.jpg

He’s the one on the far right. He is quite good and kind of intense, so if this Like Dandelion Dust has a face-off between him and Cole, that might be kind of cool. But I don’t know if this is an action film, per se, so I am holding judgment for the time being (I know, what a surprise!).

By the way, if you didn’t see The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, you should. It is quite black, but also quite funny. I only bring that up because that is another film that Barry Pepper has done in the last few years. Tommy Lee Jones is also in it, and excellent as always. I mean, really, what isn’t Tommy Lee Jones good in? That Batman movie he did…I don’t know, I didn’t bother to see it.

Now, back to Like Dandelion Dust. I found a short article on Jacksonville.com that mentioned that it was an “independent Christian film”, whatever that means.

But I did find a synopsis of the film on Christians in Cinema’s website, so I guess it’s a Christian film afterall. And yet, I still have to ask, what does that mean? Straight to DVD?

The director is Jon Gunn. The last film that Mr. Gunn headed was My Date with Drew, as in Barrymore. Yeah, looked pretty bad despite Ms. Barrymore’s charms. Gunn’s first film was Mercy Streets. I don’t know anything about this one except that Eric Roberts was in it, which is never a good sign.

But still, good to see Cole Hauser is working.

The Beginning of the End: K-Ville Has Been Cancelled

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Thanks a lot, Writers Strike. Now what am I supposed to write about?

News came this week that K-Ville will not be returning to production, FOX, or Monday nights. Get your fill of the existing K-Ville episodes on the official FOX website or on Hulu, or wait until the DVD set comes out — if it comes out on DVD??

k_ville_goofin__.jpg

The Times-Picayune reported that K-Ville will not return for our viewing pleasure, or displeasure, depending on how you viewed the show starring Anthony Anderson and Cole Hauser. I, for one, will miss K-Ville, but as I have had the past three months getting used to the fact that it ain’t comin’ back, I am not upset or surprised for that matter.

The Times-Picayune reporter was not surprised either.

I’ve been writing and rewriting “K-Ville’s” obituary for months.

And the author, Dave Walker, added this…

Every[sic] since the strike shut-down, “K-Ville” has existed among TV’s undead — not quite canceled but presenting very weak vital signs.

The resolution of the strike — which is happening this week; see this link for a rundown on when or if your other favorite shows will return — was supposed to provide closure for the handful of fans holding out for a “K-Ville” resurrection.

No such luck. Fox is one of those networks that never quite cancels anything. Its shows just stop running, and their demise is never officially acknowledged.

“K-Ville’s” home page, streaming episodes and streaming theme song are still active at www.Fox.com, but that’s really all that’s left of the series.

So, there we are. Forced to think of Boulet and Cobb, who I thought could become the next Crockett and Tubbs, as only a memory

Personally, aside from my disappointment regarding this website, I thought that K-Ville was getting slightly better each week, until that crapfest of a “fall finale” aired as the last episode. Granted, that episode was never written as a “finale” of any sort, but it was what it was, and it was bad. Again, sadly that will be the last taste of K-Ville many of us will be left with, as we watch Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Yet another fine show from the FOX network…Kudos oncasting Summer Glau, because she is the only thing watchable on that show. Although, I do like the guy that plays the terminator that took the identity of d-list actor, and is hunting down that whiny brat, John Conner. Let’s hope he sticks around for a few episodes.

garret_dillahunt.jpg

That actor, Garrett Dillahunt, was also in John from Cincinnati, and also had a small role in one of the year’s best, and most talked about film, No Country for Old Men. If you have not seen No Country, see it. It’s excellent. You can read a review I wrote of it by clicking here. Dillahunt is someone to watch, as I think he is a very good actor. Although, he does seem to take just about any job he is offerred. Oh, I kid, I kid. He’s working…a lot, and that’s great.

But still, this is about K-Ville. Just remember…Jericho was cancelled and has returned to primetime. Viewers wrote CBS and complained enough that the show was brought back. I’m just throwing that out there…

Writer’s Strike Could Be History

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

So official word from the Writers Guild of America is that WGA members have all day Tuesday, February 12 to vote on the proposed deal to end the three-month long strike. However, as the WGA announcement mentions, the vote is only to immediately end the strike pending ratification of the new deal between the Writers Guild and the studios OR wait until the deal is ratified and then end the strike.

So my question is, let’s say they do indeed vote to end the strike, but the deal is then not ratified. Would the writers re-strike?

The LA Times reported today that the ratification process could take up to twelve days. Can the writing staff of K-Ville crank out a script in twelve days? And if so, what is the point of giving me only one more new episode, when there are so many plotlines to wrap up? The mole in the department? Cobb’s secret affair? Boulet’s etouffe recipe?

crawfish_etouffee.jpg

Still, the bigger question of whether K-Ville will return or not remains foremost on my mind. Well, ok, I do have other things going on in my life, but I mean foremost when it concerns this blog, right?

But really, look at the evidence. K-Ville was not winning the ratings race on Monday night by any stretch, and FOX has since replaced K-Ville in its time slot with Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. This worries me, but also gets me thinking of a better time for FOX to air K-Ville. I am thinking Tuesday after American Idol, except I believe that is House’s time slot. Wednesday then, maybe? I honestly have no idea what is on FOX Wednesday night now…Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares? Too bad I like the BBC’s version of Kitchen Nightmares a gazillion times better, because it is more about food and less about abject filth (anyone else notice that?). But there I go again, digressing.

I just checked the FOX website’s posted schedule, and it looks like that lie detector show, The Moment of Truth, is now on Wednesday’s at 9pm. American Idol is going to be the two-hour shows for a couple of weeks, I think. I tried watching American Idol for a season or a half, and I just tend to get rather bored with it, so I am not entirely sure how long the two-hour shows continue for.

It may not matter anyway, as who really knows what the genius minds behind FOX programming have in mind for this truncated season. Will K-Ville throw us a couple of episodes before summer, or just try to pick up again next season? I think that putting out a few episodes is the best idea, to renew the public’s memory of K-Ville, before a longer summer break. Not only that, but New Orleans has been in the news lately, and with the juggernaut of Brad Pitt hanging around, doing all sorts of goodness, it might just be a good time to revisit the Big Easy during prime-time.

Can’t Even Watch the Reruns…

Monday, January 14th, 2008

The Sarah Connor Chronicles debuted last night, and the second episode will be airing tonight at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central. And yes, that is K-Ville’s time slot. Not that it has been on the last couple of weeks, but still, a new show in a previous show’s time slot makes me suspicious, except that we are in the middle of a writers strike, so there really is no rhyme or reason to anything anymore. Like Jimbo Jones says to Homer Simpson during the cat burgler episode, “I don’t believe in nothing no more. I’m goin’ to law school.”

jimbo_jones.jpg

I checked the FOX website for next week’s schedule as well, and yes, it’s true that the Sarah Connor Chronicles are taking over the 9pm Monday night time slot. Now, I imagine that this is a “permanent” schedule, as I really don’t see when else this show would air. Maybe it will be moved to the hour after American Idol, like House did for a while, and maybe FOX will again show K-Ville, but I doubt that. When and if K-Ville will return is unknown to me, so if anyone out there has any real, definitive information, please pass it along to the front of the class. But I am inclined to think that we will not see K-Ville again until the strike is over and new episodes return. However, I also strongly believe that if the strike goes on too much longer, there will be no return of K-Ville. Unless of course, the strike goes on for quite some time; then I think that due to the lack of pilots for next fall, K-Ville may just win a second (half of a) season. But again, this is all speculation.

Did anyone check out the Sarah Connor Chronicles last night? Much like Bionic Woman, I was a little excited about it and really wanted SCC to be good. Instead, I found it pretty cheesy, and a little 24-esque, without the ticking time clock to lend momentum to the action. However, as I learned from the K-Ville pilot (and almost every other pilot I have seen in my insignificant lifetime), pilots can be lame and then the show once it hits its stride can really come into its own and become quite good. I have always liked the Terminator mythology, so I’d like to see SCC become better, but we’ll have to wait, watch, and see.

And yes, I will be watching SCC tonight. In case, you were wondering…What can I say, I like Summer Glau — I miss Firefly :(

ff.jpg

Oh, and I have some good news for all my fans (all two of you). I am taking over the Portland, Oregon site for 451 Press. You can visit it here…www.about-portlandor.com. Don’t worry, I am still writing Watching K-Ville.

K-Ville Loses Close Race for People’s Choice Awards

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Ok, so maybe it wasn’t close, but as I have no hard and fast knowledge either way, I am assuming that it was a close race, dammit. Because, yes, that’s right, K-Ville is awesome.

The People’s Choice Award for Best New TV Drama went to Moonlight.

moonlight.jpg

I have not watched Moonlight, but I did see some really hokey promo spots for it when I watched Kid Nation On Demand, and frankly, I have no real plan to watch a “vampire” TV show. But please, if I am missing out, tell me and I am more than willing to maybe possibly think about checking it out. Pinky-swear.

I wrote about K-Ville’s prospects in the People’s Choice horserace in a previous post. In case you missed it, you can either check out the handy hyperlink that I provided, or here’s a quick recap: K-Ville was nominated, and I use that term loosely, for the Best New TV Drama Award, which I think entitles the winner(s) to a free small coke at Dairy Queen. The other nominees included Big Shots, Bionic Woman, Cane, Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl, Journeyman, Life, Life is Wild, Moonlight, Private Practice, and Women’s Murder Club.

Of those shows, I have now seen Bionic Woman (weaker than I can accept), Journeyman (corny at times, but could be brilliant some day), Gossip Girl (too much fun, gotta love it), and Life (which is surprisingly growing on me). K-Ville didn’t stand a chance.

But then again, Ellen Degeneres won not one, but two People’s Choice Awards this year, so frankly, I am not too sure about how much clout these particular awards carry.

K-Ville Back with New Episodes

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Ok, maybe I got your attention. Officially, K-Ville is of course on hiatus due to the writers strike. But I will have exclusive access to new scripts.

How did I get my hands on these? I’m writing them myself. I studied the one-hour drama in school and learned how to write the old teleplay, so why not give it a shot, right? I mean, it is not like I will be missing out on covering new news and such. (In all fairness, I will still cover any news or updates.)

However, I think that by writing some new episodes of K-Ville, we as a group can come up with some pretty good stories. Saying that, I invite anyone and everyone to offer input on the storylines. K-Ville (and every other television show) usually has a cadre of writers working on the scripts, so I would love to have other “writers” get involved in my little project.

Here’s my plan. Monday’s will be the teaser (the part of the show before the credits) and the first “act”, that is the part of the story before the first ad break. Everyday thereafter will be another “act”, and hopefully Friday can be a review and critique day. Or just me catching up on whatever may be going on with K-Ville, the actors, New Orleans, etc.

scab_healing.jpg

I am going to see how long I can keep this up. And yes, I realize that maybe I am encroaching on being a “scab.” But one) I am not writing the script for anyone other than you, my faithful and attractive readers, and two) it will not be a script. I’m going to go with more of a prose-format. Maybe dialogue-heavy scenes will fall back into a script-format, but we’ll see.

So, there you go, kids. Monday will be the first day of the rest of this blog’s life.

K-Ville Inspires the Local Culinaristas

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Yes, I just made that word up. I just like putting the -ista suffix on anything that people take too seriously. And I can call “foodies” out, as I am a bit of one myself. But onto the real point of this post…

I guess that just the mention and brief appearance of gumbo has spawned Monday Night Gumbo parties in N’awlins. Sorry, do they say N’Awlins anymore? Is it NOLA? I know it is not K-Ville. One of the major complaints about the show from New Orleans locals is that no one calls it K-Ville. If I live there, I would call it the town that FEMA forgot.

fema.jpg

On a side note: In Oregon, we had some pretty bad flooding about a week and a half, two weeks ago (December 3, 2007), and FEMA finally showed up yesterday (December 19). Yeah, the US government — we pay taxes, and it all goes to Halliburton, KBR, DynCorp, Blackwater, Titan, CACI, Parsons…don’t believe me — look it up.

Anyhoo, the Times-Picayune has mentioned the K-Ville Cookbook before, and I said I would follow up on that topic. The “unofficial” K-Ville Cookbook was a gift to cast and crew when the filming on K-Ville wrapped in November.

Script supervisor Jillian Amburgey had already been collecting recipes from local crew members. She’d assembled them into a neat booklet with script excerpts that tied the recipes into specific food references in episodes. She’d also done biographical profiles of some of the contributors, including their storm stories. A couple of the recipes were scanned copies apparently rendered in a grandmother’s handwriting.

There’d been some talk of publishing the cookbook as a charity fundraiser, but when sudden news of the shutdown came, Anderson and co-star Cole Hauser paid to have copies of the booklet quickly printed up for distribution to everybody in the “K-Ville” production family.

It’s not an official “wrap” gift because “K-Ville” hasn’t officially wrapped. (-NOLA.com)

Aw, Anthony and Cole must be the nicest guys to work with. I think that this book would sell, and it may help out those on the production side that are out of work. Just an idea…Although, I did read on another blog (thehullabaloo.com) that the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 478

requires its members to continue working through the strike. The 550 members of the union include set painters, wardrobe workers, grips and other crew positions.

So maybe those guys are working on something. It says “stage” crew, so maybe those burlesque shows could use some gaffers.

A “Season Finale” to Forget

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Was it just me or was last night’s episode, “Ride Along” just a series of bad cliches? I know that it was not meant to be a season finale, but the only thing that the finale had going for it was that maybe there is a mole in the department…maybe.

Cliche #1: Overzealous reporter from New York, of course. Add that she is “checking in on New Orleans” and we have a superbad cliche.

Cliche #2: Witness killed by drug dealer. No!

Cliche #3: Reporter decides to write a story called “Everyday Heroes.” No wonder she gets the “good” assignments.

Cliche #4: Reporter’s story gets re-written by editor, and someone gets killed for it. Come on! That’s just a (excuse the pun) cop-out.

I think the cat’s sub-plot was the best part of the episode.

And did anyone else notice that the question about Love Tap’s nickname came up, and dismissed as a “long story.” Dammit, I want answers. Wait, maybe that is the hook to get me to watch K-Ville again. Not the mole, not the possibility of Cobb being found out, it’s the nicknames. Genius!

Anyway, I will now have plenty of time to re-hash this weaker-than-most episode, but first let me just say how much I disliked the guest star playing the reporter. I cannot find her name, but what a crappy actress. It’s too bad because I have heretofore been impressed with most of the actors brought in for this show. I really wanted her to get shot during that scene when the team went after Caveman.

Yeah, I love it. A character named Caveman.

caveman.jpg

No, not that one. But if he showed up on K-Ville, well, that would be a great episode I am sure. Maybe the Teen Angels could show up, too.

Fall Finale or Season Finale? Probably Doesn’t Matter

Friday, December 14th, 2007

kv_season_finale_poster.jpg

I just received the official FOX newsletter for K-Ville last night (first one all fall/season).

Here’s what it said:

K-VILLE: SEASON FINALE!
MONDAY 9/8c

When a reporter from New York visits New Orleans to write a story on the city two years after Katrina, Cobb and Boulet begrudgingly take her on a ride-along. While escorting their guest, Boulet and Cobb respond to a call where a victim has been brutally shot. As the investigation unfolds and the journalist reports, challenging and unforeseen circumstances surface.

One, the email’s subject line said “Fall Finale.” The email itself says “Season Finale.” It is probably a moot point, but still it inspires hope that FOX is keeping K-Ville around. If they were going to cancel it, wouldn’t they simply let it disappear without fanfare, like so many other shows?

Two, I think it is cute how the promo is written. First, it’s “Cobb and Boulet,” and then it’s “Boulet and Cobb.” Aw, they don’t want either star to feel “bigger” or more important than the other. I do the same things with my cats.

Three, what a crappy promo. “…challenging and unforeseen circumstances surface.” Geez, I guess the promo writers are on strike as well. My eight-year-old nephew could have written that, FOX. Give me something to look forward to, not ambiguities. I know, I know, you can’t give it away, but you really should tease me better than that. I’ll beg for it more. ;)

So anyway, my friends, I am sad that K-Ville will not be a part of my weekly routine, and I am going to have to start watching more reality TV (seriously, that lie detector show looks HORRIBLE!), but as I mentioned before, now I will have more time and desire to really start examining the episodes we do have at our disposal. Thank you, FOX, for making the episodes available on line, as well as a kiss out to you, Hulu.

Official FOX Recap Confuses Me (Anyone else?)

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

As I was checking out the official K-Ville site, I happened to read the recap for “Boulet in a China Shop.”

If you must know, I was trying to see if FOX listed whoever did the excellent “Blue Skies” cover toward the end of the episode that then sound-dissolved-cut into Love Tap’s screeched version of it at the kareoke bar. Anyone?

blue_sky.gif

Anyhoo, the official FOX recap has more in it than the version of “Boulet in a China Shop” than I saw. Remember how I wrote that Cobb was a little too mysterious about his doin’s and transpirin’s during the episode? The recap explains that he was outside of A.J.’s trailer while the gang was at the kareoke bar the first time in the beginning, and then again, he was giving AJ the money that he tried giving her in a previous episode, “No Good Deed.”

But if you read the recaps from both “No Good Deed” and “Boulet in a China Shop,” the exact same phrases/half-paragraphs are in both, so I am inclined to see this a some weird typo on the part of the FOX site.

AJ, a lovely lass, was the girlfriend of Cobb’s old cell mate that he kind of let drown during “the storm.” Anyway, to make a long story short, Cobb tried to assuage his guilt by giving AJ the stash from one of the cell mate’s heists. This blew up in his face as AJ was arrested a short time later for trying to spend some of the ill-gotten cash. But now, the stolen cash issue is no longer an “issue” and he can finally give her the money again. Was this in last week’s episode? I had missed it due to the Oregon floods, and decided to watch it once new episodes were no longer available. A way of keeping myself busy during the Season of the Reality Show…

So, my question is, did anyone in the country see this interaction between Cobb and AJ during the December 10th episode? Because I did not see these two scenes. Why would those scenes have been cut? Hmm. Or is this simply an oversight on the FOX sight and someone screwed up with the recaps?

Here’s my evidence:

From the recap for “No Good Deed”: (the beginning)

Cobb gives A.J. the money, tells her it was Sonny’s, he won it gambling the night he was arrested. The other cops thought it was dirty but he got to the bottom of it, just took a while to sort out. He explains that before he was NOPD he was a prison guard, became friends with Sonny and as they establish this connection both missing their old friend, Cobb’s pager disrupts their moment and takes us to…

From “Boulet in a China Shop”: (towards the end, after the Boulet and Cobb scene in the locker room)

Cobb goes back to the trailer park, in uniform. He gives A.J. the money and tells her it was her husband’s. Sonny was Cobb’s old cellmate who he allowed to drown during the storm. Cobb says that Sonny won the money gambling the night he was arrested. The other cops thought it was dirty but he got to the bottom of it; it just took a while to sort out. A.J., emotional, says she doesn’t know if Sonny would want her to have this money. They were having troubles when he died. There’s an attraction between her and Cobb. She says she plays guitar most nights at Jake’s, and shyly invites him to stop by if he wants.

Here’s more from the Boulet in a China Shop: (From the very beginning)

Boulet, on a night out with his fellow cops and Ayana, whoops it up at a karaoke bar. Meanwhile, Cobb goes to a trailer park, where he lays eyes on the beautiful A.J. for the first time. He hides in the shadows, just watching her.

First time?? There was already a whole episode about AJ and Cobb. Is this oversight perhaps why the Cobb scenes were cut?

My guess: The AJ/Cobb thing was supposed to be in one episode, and then switched to another. But the recaps were obviously not updated, and that is why Cobb had no sub-plot in “Boulet in a China Shop.” Any other guesses?

And wait, to further the mystery…Amanda Righetti, who plays AJ, is listed in IMDB as appearing in “Cobb’s Webb” and “No Good Deed.”

K-Ville Full Episodes on Hulu

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

After signing up for the Beta version of Hulu, I finally got the email inviting me to check the site out. So far, I love it. Not just because it rhymes with my name either…

Yes, all clips and shows are in widescreen, so sorry about running past the confines of this posting space. If that bothers you.

This is the latest episode of K-Ville. The “Boulet in a China Shop” episode, and as long as I don’t mind a few ads during and a footnote ad in the lower corner, I can not only watch the entire K-Ville episode for free, I can embed it onto this blog, so now you can watch it for free. At least, I hope that is how it will work out. I posted a Simpsons clip on another one of my many, many blogs, and it seems to be working exactly as I just described.

So enjoy, all of friends and well-wishers.

Hulu seems to be FOX and FX, and NBC and NBC-owned networks, i.e. Bravo, Sci Fi. Hulu is super. Except that I am wasting way too much time there. Just now, I watched four clips from The Office that was totally off-task, but awesome. It is nice to get clips from the source, rather than a bad transfer on YouTube.

Although, and I feel guilty about this, isn’t this internet streaming thing exactly what the Writers Strike all about? And I am part of the problem, not the solution. What is a TV junkie to do? How about this?

About Watching KVille

Sure, K-Ville enjoyed a short run on FOX during the ill-fated fall television season of 2007. After being interrupted by the Writers' Strike, K-Ville was cancelled, but that doesn't mean we don't see new "K-Villes" come and go every season…This blog explores not only life after K-Ville, but also those television programs that either exploit current events or last one season or less.
